About the photo: This original and playful perspective photo shows me, holding the Sun in my palms during a beach sunset in Costa Rica where I had lived for a few months and worked on an activism project before officially launching my practice back in the U.S. It highlights a gentle reminder of balance. Every day no matter how busy the neighborhood was and how hard we worked all day, immediately at sunset the locals would play a variety of fun Costa Rican music and the community would spontaneously head to the beach to watch the sunset with loved ones. It was powerful to get to experience that, especially being from the U.S. where work and productivity have become such obsessions, fueling so much of the widespread SLP overwhelm and burnout I see in my peer mentorship program. I’m also guided to include this photo because the Sun and the ocean together reflect my sacred Chinese name, assigned to me by my elders based on celestial events during my date and time of birth. My name is the symbol for wisdom, derived from combining the symbols for Sun and Moon, respectively.
